Extra Digits

This is a photo of my hand...
Looks pretty normal, right?  Well, it did not when I was born.  Just like my mother and my grandfather before me, I was born with 6 fingers on each hand.  My fingers were the most developed out of all of ours, but they would never be fully functional.  I had surgery to remove them when I was 8 months old.  You can kind of see what the scar looks like in the photo below.  The scars are about a half inch long and really are not that noticeable, but there is a nerve ending there so if I hit my hand on something it hurts really bad.
The reason I am showing you my deformity is that we have our ultrasound next week.  Among all of the normal things one would look for, I will certainly have the technician count fingers.  My doctor said they should be able to do that fairly easily.  Either way I know the baby will be fine because I am, but I'm very interested to know!

Fun fact:  Even though I was born with 12 fingers, I have since been used as a fit model for womens gloves.  What are the odds of that happening?

P.S. I'm planning on starting up a series of guest blogger mom's writing all about life with little ones.  I was going to call it "Mama Says," but came across this today and decided I should change my name because well, it feels like I'm copying someone even though I had no idea she called her posts that.  Any ideas on names for the series?  And, e-mail me if you're interested in sharing!

Hmmm... bummer on the whole Mama Says name being used... It might be cliche, but what about something like "Mama Knows Best" or something?
