So, I have this dress...

Back in 2006, I worked at the Betsey Johnson sample sale while I was a design intern there.  I saw a dress on the racks that I wanted so badly, but it was not my size.  I searched the entire place hoping to find it, but 10's were hard to come by.  I finally found an 8 and decided to go for it.
I got back to my tiny cell of a room at The Webster and immediately tried it on.  I was pretty disappointed to find that I could not get the buttons to reach the button holes.
Here is the positive part of the story though...6 years later, I can finally button it.
Now I want to wear it, but the dress is a bit fancy and the only fancy events I attend are weddings.
Here is my dilemma...
The dress is white.
Can I wear a white dress to someone else's wedding?
Your advice is much appreciated.

  2. Love the dress! What about if you were to wear it with a cute blazer or cardigan over top, then for the reception wear it as is? It would be a shame to not be able to wear it now that you've reached your goal to fit into it! xoxo

  3. hmm that's a tuffy. i like andrea's idea of a cardigan but, would it completely cover it's cuteness? maybe if you know the bride isn't wearing white and instead wearing a champagne or off-white dress!
i would just force husband to take you out on a fancy date ;)

  4. It's soooooo cute! You gotta let that thing breathe, wear it as much as possible this summer:-) Hmmmm. Not sure about white at a wedding. I would be a little nervous. I've been to so many weddings, so I have seen it all. Crazy extravagant dresses. Look at meeeeeeee dresses. Someone wearing the same dress as the bridesmaids.
A white dress would probably be on the low end of the faux pas totem pole:-)
is there any way you could dye it? maybe to a champagne/or light blush? If you'd even want to...It's so perfect as is! Scratch that idea! xoxo

  7. I agree that you can wear it a lot of places besides a wedding. However, because it's short, you could probably wear it to a wedding if you wanted. If it felt weird to, I'd get one of those shrugs in a pink yarn that are basically just sleeves so you didn't cover up most of the dress and matched the bow.

  8. Such a cute dress and that's awesome that it fits now!!! Yay! I'd be a little nervous about wearing it to a wedding, but you should wear it on a fun date night with your husband!

  9. I've worn a cream colored dress to a wedding before and didn't even think twice about it. Everyone will be looking at the happy couple that they probably won't even notice. I say wear it!

  11. I think the "no white at a wedding" rule is a bit outdated. I could be wrong though? I think it would be fine to wear it! It is pretty and the fact that you can wear it now, after having a baby, is incredible! :)

  13. If people didn't abide by rules, then brides wouldn't wear bridal gowns and carrying flowers all day at their wedding. Men don't take a woman's last name just because "anything goes" today now do they? Don't wear it to a wedding. I'm getting married in July and I'd be mad if someone wore white besides me! Just sayin :) Trying to give you an outside perspective!

  14. I think wearing it to a wedding would be just fine :) But I think Jeremy should take you on a fancy date so you can wear your pretty dress!

  16. I don't think that wearing white at someone else's wedding is as taboo as it used to be. There were girls that wore white to my wedding and it didn't bother me at all, and I'm the most dramatic person on the face of the earth. Plus this dress is perfect for a summer wedding. I say go for it!

About the wedding - what about a (long) scarf in beautiful (tender) color(s) to match the dress ... ??
