Portlander Problems #15

The problems this week are directly related to having an out of town guest.
1.  What should we do in Portland with a guest who doesn't like coffee, beer, or breakfast food?
2. Having to explain our complicated recycling/compost/garbage system to a guest is not easy. The paper towels go in the compost bin?!
3. People sometimes seemed confused when looking for water at our house. When visiting us, you will not find filtered water in our refrigerator, and we definitely don't buy bottled water.  This is Portland, we drink it straight from the tap!

If you live in the Portland area and want to share some of your own, I would love if you would submit your Portlander Problems to me.
I will post yours one of these coming weeks.  E-mail me at

  1. I think I need to visit your city one day. You've intrigued me :)
PS. I also did not know that paper towel goes in the compost bin?! Interesting.. :)

    1. Yep! But our "compost bin" is a bucket that gets dumped into our yard debris/compost can and the city takes it away to make into compost. I have no idea how well paper towels would work if someone composted at home.

  2. Lol, they don't like coffee, beer, or breakfast foods? Probably shouldn't associate with such people :).

  3. I'm with Jeni! PDX is not the town for them...

    1. Haha, she is ok with pancakes so that's something I can work with :)

  4. So, we (with we I mean the whole country - we're small:)) have complicated recycling/compost/garbage system, too. (For a few years now.) And yes, the paper towels go in the compost bin. :)
We drink water straight from the tap, too. Yep!!

  5. This is a good one Kira! So true about the non-beer/coffee-drinking-breakfast-eating guest. It makes entertaining them terribly tricky!

  6. I really think Portland and SF are meant to be sister cities. :)

I love to hear from you, and will do my best to respond to your comment! Please no spam :)
