Nursery Update Ideas - Making it Unisex

Pearl's room still looks nearly the same as it did in March although usually messy.  I also gave in a bit and added flower decals around her closet.  We were trying to keep it pretty unisex just in case the next baby was a boy.  Somehow though, girly elements kept getting added. It turns out I like girly things and couldn't help myself.
Now that we are going to have a boy and the kids will be sharing a room, I do need to make a few changes.  I think specific girl and boy colors are a little silly so I don't mind keeping a bit of pink in there.  I do want to update the room with both of them in mind though.  That will mean taking down a few of the things that say "Pearl" all over the room.
I want to keep the fabric covered letters that are above her crib and place them over her new toddler bed.   I would also make some with his name to put over the crib.  We haven't purchased a toddler bed for Pearl yet (she isn't quite ready), but I like the one pictured below.

Most of the other updates involve removing the flower decals, and reducing some of the pink.  I would like to bring more grey into the room to replace the majority of the pink items.  I like the below rug and I want to get them simple bedding as well.

For the crib, I want plain grey fitted sheets and I like the idea of doing some type of simple quilt on Pearl's toddler bed.  I would love suggestions for great places to look for toddler bedding.  Most of the bedding I am coming across is really cutesy.  I want something simple, modern, and unisex.
I am so glad we don't need to create a brand new nursery again.  It was beneficial that we kept future boys in mind when making our choices.  All of our updates can be done quickly which I really appreciate this time around!

  3. Target just got GREAT new crib sheets in! Chevron, polka dots...all in gray and white! It just came out so you may want to wait a bit to look in store but I think you can find online, brand is Circo, not sure if they have all of the matchers (bumpers, crib skirt, etc) but sheets are adorable!

  6. Love that rug. Why must rugs be so expensive? I'm not sure about the toddler bedding- you're right- most are cutesy. I'm sure you've looked on etsy which is always one of my fave places to look for such things. I know you'll pull it all together nicely- you have such great style and creativity!

  8. Such a good idea to do a unisex room. We did a vintage-looking room that is pretty neutral dusty blue and pale green. I was just thinking the other day that if we put a couple girly touches (like you did for your daughter)I think we'd be good to go if our next one is a girl. Thanks for the thoughts; helpful to keep that big picture in mind.

  10. I sewed my son's main sheet (I bought an extra one from Target for when his main one is in the wash) because they didn't have the color I wanted for a reasonable price or without freaking weird designs and characters. It took about 5 minutes to sew!
