A Girl and Her Dogs

When I was pregnant with Pearl, I was concerned about how our dogs might act with a baby around the house.  I was specifically concerned about one of our dogs.  Our Miniature Australian Shepherd is very energetic and I was afraid she wouldn't be careful around a baby.  She also tends to scare a lot of toddlers because she loves to jump up and lick their faces.
I couldn't be happier with how things have turned out with the dogs though.  We had a few moments at first where Syd had to be scolded while ripping through the house with a baby on the floor, but she quickly adjusted. She is generally careful around visiting babies now too.  She still scares visiting toddlers, but Pearl absolutely loves her.  I guess when you grow up with an overly excited and affectionate dog, it doesn't make you nervous.
Roxy (our lab-shepherd-pug mix) is still a bit nervous around Pearl sometimes, but practically everything makes her nervous and she takes Pearl's hugs very well.  She is very careful around Pearl and all children.  It took her a long time to go near Pearl, but she is finally coming around (mostly because Pearl always has food).
I'm glad Pearl loves her furry friends so much.  "Dog" was one of her first words and she woofs alongside them at squirrels any chance she gets.

  1. We have a Boston terrier and a German shepherd lab mix and they are both very energetic and I often wonder how they will be once we have kids. Our friends 5 yr old is sometimes a little scared by our big dog but mostly because his bark is so loud.

Your pictures of Pearl loving her puppies are so cute!

  2. That is definitely something that I think many people worry about with their children - so happy that it is working out well for you. Those pictures are adorable.

  3. How sweet! I know a lot of people worry about their pets and new babies, but I've rarely heard of anyone actually having a problem.
