Toddler Style #5 - Minky and Tiger

Sweater: Old Navy, Tunic: Target, Jeggings: JC Penney, Shoes: TOMS, Tiger: IKEA
Lately we have been cutting back on the pacifier.  I'm not too concerned about completely getting rid of it yet, but Pearl does rely on it too much.  I have been keeping it hidden from sight during the day and stopped giving it to her for short car trips.  She still gets it at nap time, bedtime, during long car rides, and when she whines so much that I give in.
She had a meltdown right before these photos were taken and I guess you could say she won that round since her binky (or minky as she calls it) is clearly in her mouth.  I tried her favorite stuffed animal "Mama Tiger" hoping that would calm her down, but she decided it wasn't enough.  She just kept crying and saying "minky, minky, minky..." until I handed it over.  I guess I'm a push over.  I'm hoping she becomes less reliant on it in the next few months so we have an easier time taking it away for good.

  1. ooooh.... I'd give in too! We are still doing the bottle because I'm a pushover. I'm not going to worry about any of it til he is 2 and then I am going to start pushing more. He gave up his pacifier by himself. I hope he does the same someday with the bottle.

  2. Cruz was done with his paci at about 17 months or so, but that was because he chewed a big hole in both of his pacis, and we didn't have any more, and there wasn't any way to get another late at night (go island living) so we just quit cold turkey! And he did so much better than I expected, although he only had it for nights and naptimes. But I totally hear you, it's hard to not give in, especially when they want something so much! I'd say don't sweat it, she won't have her minky (totally adorable!) forever :)
And that outfit of hers is awesome. Best dressed toddler ever! Can't wait to see how you dress your little boy! xo

  3. She's so darn stylish!! love her!
Ellie had her pacifier (for naps and bedtime only) until she was 3!!!! But it wasn't that bad, because she was actually old enough, and ready to give it up. The day she decided she was ready, she handed them to me, and never looked back!! :-) It was super easy! But yes, 3 is pretty old!! At least they stayed in her bed at all times. She never walked around with it...just needed it to sleep...

  5. Love her outfit! And I agree with Andrea- can't wait to see how you dress a boy! :) No pressure. ;)

H doesn't call his paci anything yet and doesn't seem to miss it during the day. We should really be better about not giving it to him during the day because sometimes it is just clipped on out of habit! I do wonder though if Brooks takes a paci that will make him want it when he sees it? Eek. In that case, pretty sure we will do whatever it takes to survive. Haha.

Have you guys decided on a name for baby boy? Do you plan on sharing or waiting? Just curious! :)

  7. Awwww, minky! My little cousin LOVED her binkies (bops) and when her parents finally started phasing them out, they would find a bunch hidden in her bed at night:-) xoxo

  9. It's funny to me how some kids get attached to the pacifiers and some don't. My niece wants nothing to do with hers but the little girl I used to nanny was obsessed and hid them in secret places only she knew about!

Minky or no, Pearl is the perfect little toddler model (moddler?). :)

  10. We are getting to a little crossroads ourselves with the paci. We're doing the same steps as you, but our little guy is hopelessly addicted. Hope you have better luck. =) Just discovered your blog. Your daugther is just beautiful. And so stylish! =)

  13. I am totally a push over! Enzo calls it "B" and when he says it he raises both eyebrows and puts it in the form of a question. He just keeps repeating it, and I can't handle the cuteness, gets me every time. I just love her little boots! So cute! xoxo
