Me and Coffee...A Story of Desire

I've made it a point to not have a daily cup of coffee.  There are some people in my life who are unable to function until they have that first cup in the morning and I never wanted to be like that.  Jeremy doesn't like coffee and in the past I have only purchased it as an occasional treat.  We don't have a coffee pot so I never had the option to make coffee at home before and I didn't feel the need to anyway.  We also don't have a lot of counter space so it seemed silly to have something that would just be in the way.
Well, guess what folks...having two children under two can change a person.  It can make a person really desire caffeine.  Just in case you were wondering, by "a person," I totally mean me.  As a birthday gift to myself, I purchased a one cup french press.  Now I can have coffee when I feel the need and not spend $3-$4 on a latte three times a week which is what I have been doing lately.  It is also really small so it won't take up counter space.
I just got the french press and a coffee grinder and I can't wait to try them out!  I really have no idea how to use these two items, but I'm excited to get the caffeine into my body.

  1. That looks delicious! I would LOVE to have a French Press or a Keurig! Never had coffee from a french press. Anyting is better and cheaper than spending $4 a day on a coffee that could cost you less than $25 cents to make on your own.

  3. I love having coffee in the morning - more as a delicious ritual than anything. There is something relaxing about getting my cup of coffee and just sitting for a moment!

  4. Welcome to the club. I would love to say I don't have any addictions but I don't know that I could function in daily life without caffeine. I am gone from home for 12 hours a day usually between commute, getting the girls to mom's & work. I am SO not a morning person. The McDonalds drive thru (because I am a cheapskate. A lazy one.) gets my caffeine money on the regular. I'm a cold caffeine person so Diet Coke is my crutch but I've been integrating more iced tea in the effort to... you know. Not get cancer & the like. I've been debating getting a SodaStream (and by debating I mean I would spend the money on it in a heartbeat and Matt says that is enabling me...) because I honestly think part of my addiction is the carbonation too. I might have just googled 'carbonated coffee'...

  5. Freshly ground coffee made in a French press is hands down, the BEST Way to drink coffee. You are doing it the right way!!!!

  6. French press is the perfect compromise- not taking up a lot of space, but it can yield a nice rich coffee, and you don't necessarily have to have it everyday for a jolt of energy - if anything with french press you have to do a few more steps by hand which makes it more of a commitment and it can be part of the ritual of the treat!

  9. I tried, and succeeded for a bit, to cut coffee, but I really love the ritual of preparing myself a cup and enjoying the taste of the coffee. It's almost meditative.

  10. Mmm, coffee... I never used to drink it because I didn't want to become addicted, but now my husband got me into the health benefits of really good quality coffee and it makes me feel good! I love Happy Cup's single origin roast, definitely worth a try and they sell it at Whole Foods, New Seasons, Zupan's... or we ordered a 5 pound bag from them! French press is sooo good... my husband's the real coffee snob, though; I normally defer to him! He posted about how we drink ours! http://www.grassfedgeek.com/2013/02/how-to-make-bulletproof-coffee.html
