This weekend (as you can guess from my last post) I went to watch my cousins RubyRox and Holly Hatchet compete in their last bout of the season. Kristi (aka RubyRox) did not end up competing which was a bummer, but she was still out there in her gear as the referee. Actually, I don't think you would call it a referee. The Renegades have no rules. That is what makes it so fun. There are a lot of roller derby leagues in Oregon, but this is the only one I'm aware of that actually lets you swing punches. They do have bouncers that eventually pull girls off of each other though so there were no big injuries. At least none last night anyway. Some of the girls were really impressive athletes too. The team Jen (I mean...Holly Hatchet) was on won last night, too! Below are the two amazingly cute and tough sisters:
And this is Jen's fun outfit:
Those shorts are swim suit cover-ups from Target. I know this because I nearly purchased them last week. They go so well with her sailor's cap. She also had cute nautical inspired socks on.
Maleah (my niece) was really excited to go watch. This is actually her second roller derby. She went the first time two years ago when she was a baby. She fell asleep both times, but did have some fun before drifting off last night.
I'm so glad we got to watch the bout this weekend. It was so much fun and I really wish I was tough enough and had the time to commit to it. I know the league here in Portland isn't as intense, but I'm sure it would still be fun to get involved in. I'm thinking about taking some lessons. That would be a non-committal way for me to find out how much I would be into it. I am a pretty good roller skater. I took lessons as a kid. Kara and I had matching skates with neon colorful covers that went over them. I wish I still had those. They were pretty sweet.
What did you do this weekend?

This looks like it was a fun event. I love the skirt your niece has on. She looks like a cute ballerina.
