This last week was spent preparing for Hood to Coast in our household. We went out so Jeremy could "carb load" on Wednesday night for dinner. I bought bananas that night so he could get his potassium. We went and bought potatoes the next day so he could really get his potassium since he is allergic to bananas and that didn't turn out so well. We bought a ton of Gatorade as well as food to prepare for Van 1 who was stopping by our house after running their first legs of the race Friday evening. I cleaned the house on Thursday to prepare for their arrival.
On Friday I went into work early so I could leave in time to get home and put the lasagna in the oven. The team stopped by and ate dinner, took showers, and took naps. They were appreciative of the dinner. To be honest I didn't do much with that. The lasagna was pre-made. The real sacrifice came that evening. I was a team volunteer. This meant that at 11:00pm my friend Karen, my neighbor Kim, and I all went out to Sandy with a group of volunteers to clean-up exchange 6. It turns out that although we were told previously that exchange 6 was our only responsibility we also needed to clean exchanges 7, 8, 9, 10, and 11. I got home around 3am. It was quite the experience. I will remember to volunteer for a shift next time that does not involve clean up.
The reason I told you all of this was to express the fact that I do all of the prep work for the Hood to Coast, but have never committed to training enough to experience the fun part of the relay. I would like to eventually do the run so I can finally understand fully what this experience is about. Or, maybe the documentary of the race will be enough of an experience for me. I guess we will see when the movie comes out.

I only have two photos from the event. I wish I had some photos of Karen, Kim, and I picking up garbage and construction cones while eating cupcakes to stay awake, but for some reason I didn't think about it at the time.
Jeremy took this one at the starting line:
I took this of Van 1 just before they left our house to head downtown and start their second legs:
I guess if I want to run next year I should probably start training now. That reminds me, I am still trying to raise money to support the Susan G Komen foundation by running the Race for the Cure. Visit my donation page here.
