Once we arrived to Friday Harbor with our friends we walked around the cute little town. I heard the word "quaint" a lot while I was there. My friend Safiyah said it reminded her of Stars Hollow, the town in
Gilmore Girls. It really did have a similar feel. We had time to kill before the wonderful family who was hosting us arrived on the island so we went to dinner and then bought candy at the grocery store and watched a movie.
After everyone was in town we headed out to the house. Our hosts had built the entire home themselves. It was much more than a vacation cabin. It was a big and beautiful home with a large deck and plenty of windows to look over the pretty lagoon pictured below. We all chatted until pretty late Friday night.
On Saturday morning we were taken on a tour around the island. We visited a lot of beaches and parks. The below photos are from the first beach we visited. It was a bit cloudy in the morning, but that quickly wore off.
Reenactments of the Pig War are done at this location. There is a really interesting history to this small island. If you would like to read about the war you can find good information
here. We saw a bunch of deer in this area as well.
This park is called
Lime Kiln Point. It is supposedly a good spot for whale watching, but we didn't see any this time. It is also just really pretty and the old giant kiln was a pretty amazing sight.
This is part of the Lime Kiln beach as well. It had an old lighthouse and a bunch of Madrone trees which are my new favorite tree now. We also saw a very cute baby seal.
We went to
Roche Harbor for lunch and walked around to check out all of the boats. Jeremy is convinced we need a boat now. I am not so convinced.
The last stop before heading back to the house was the
Pelindaba Lavender Farm. This place distills and makes all kinds of products out of their lavender. I was told that the lavender stick (looks like a giant chapstick) can heal just about anything. The smell of lavender was overwhelming and that scent always gives me a headache. Apparently the lavender stick is supposed to cure headaches so I tried rubbing it on my temples (I was told to do this). I guess rubbing lavender on a lavender induced headache doesn't help much though.
We went back to the house and watched the Oregon State/Washington game. I needed another lavender stick after that one. I considered purchasing and sending one to James Rodgers so he could get back on the field. Maybe another one for Ryan Katz would do the trick to cure him from throwing interceptions. Minus that game the weekend was a lot of fun! I definitely recommend making the trip and we will certainly do it again sometime!

I think they should put up a warning sign on the ferry for all the wives that says,

Because Mark also left the islands saying "We have to buy a boat!" .. and he's still trying to figure out how to make that happen, two years later.. Glad you two had fun!!
