I made these fun pom-pom bouquets for the baby shower I hosted on Saturday and I thought I would post a tutorial for you all on how to create them. This isn't a new idea, my friend Becca made them as favors for a shower she hosted at the end of last year. I couldn't find the original source for the idea though so I figured out how to make them on my own. I thought I would go ahead and share how I created mine.
These are the supplies you will need:
Any crafty person has most of this stuff around their house. Pearl and I went on a little backyard adventure to find the sticks.
There are multiple ways to make pom-poms, there are even nifty little tools for it. But, I don't have a pom-pom specific tool and I think a fork works just fine. You can also just wrap the yarn around your fingers, but I like the fork because I can quickly put it down if Pearl decides she wants to go eat the dog food or something.
These are the basic steps I use to create a pom-pom with a fork:
1. Cut off a short piece of yarn and lay it over the top of your fork. // 2. Wrap your yarn around the fork over that piece of yarn. The more times you wrap, the more full your pom-pom will be. I wrapped this one 90 times. // 3. Tie the small piece of yarn in a knot over your wrapped yarn. Tie it as tightly as you can as that is what is holding the whole thing together. I always double knot just to be safe. // 4. I pull my yarn carefully off of the fork and cut the loops up the back side. Make sure you cut them all. // 5. Fluff out your pom-pom and clip any long pieces of yarn. Try to make it look uniform. // 6. Then just glue the pom-pom to your stick.
It's a simple project that is perfect for adding decorative elements to parties or to display in your home.
